Concussions in Kids: What Parents Need to Know
As a parent, it's natural to worry when your child takes a hard fall or bump to the head. While some injuries are minor, concussions can have lasting effects if not properly addressed. Understanding the signs and symptoms of a concussion is crucial for ensuring your child's health and safety.

What Is a Concussion & How Does It Happen?
A concussion is an injury to the brain that can be caused by a bump, hit or jolt to the head. Concussions also can happen from a fall, a hit to the body, or a whiplash movement that causes the head to shake.
Typical Signs of a Concussion in Children
Concussions can occur with or without loss of consciousness. Symptoms may appear immediately, but they can also take a few days. Typical signs and symptoms to look out for in your child include:
Headaches
Dizziness
Nausea
Sensitivity to light or sound
Blurred vision
Balance troubles
Low energy
Sleep disturbances
Drowsiness
Difficulty concentrating
Mental fogginess or poor memory
Increased confusion
More emotional (sad, angry, anxious) than usual
