Speech and Language on the Road

Are you heading out on a road trip over the holidays? Try some of these car games to work on speech and language skills while traveling.

Scavenger Hunt: Make a list of things to look for before the trip and mark them off as you find them. Be creative; you will be surprised by what you will find. Examples could include: A house with colorful lights, a snowman, a tow truck, a cow, etc.

Sound hunt: If your child is working on a specific articulation sound, look for things that contain that sound. See if you can find 10 or 20 different things

I’m Going on a Picnic: One person starts and says, “I’m going on a picnic and I’m bringing ____” The next person says, “I’m going on a picnic and I’m bringing ___ and ___”. Each person has to recite what the people before them said and add one more item. See how far you can go before the list gets too long to remember

Would You Rather: One person presents a “Would you Rather” question such as, “Would you rather eat your least favorite food every day for a year or not be able to eat your favorite food for a whole year?” or “Would you rather be able to fly or be invisible?” Each person has to pick one of the choices and explain why they picked it.
